We produce civilian-style armored vehicles, based on commercially available chassis. Customers can choose from a range of models to suit their requirements. Each platform is stripped down and rebuilt from the tires upward to appear original, but offering the guaranteed safety of a heavily armored vehicle.
Armoring civilian vehicles
Plasan Re’em vehicles provide full, all-aspect coverage and are designed to protect passengers from blast, shock, fire and projectiles.
All protection solutions are designed to comply with international standards such as VPAM for civilian vehicles and NATO’s STANAG 4569 for military types, and have been proven to save lives on operations and in conflict situations.
Plasan Re’em’s design principles focus on selecting the correct blend of materials – from traditional steel to advanced composite and transparent armor – in the right places to maximize protection and minimize its impact on the vehicle’s performance. Overlapping panels and innovative shaping ensure optimal coverage around joints and reduces the chance of splash and penetration.
Integrated, overlapping, armor packages protect the vehicle body and the passenger cell.
Designed to customer-specific threat assessment and vehicle models, our armor suites range from offering a basic level of protection against small projectiles right up to full protection solutions able to withstand hand grenades and improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
Using 3D scans of the vehicle body, structure and OEM information, the armor package is designed to provide maximum protection with minimal impact on visibility and added weight. Armor inserted into vehicle components such as doors and pillars is designed to provide maximum strength and protection, while still enabling passengers to open and close them.
Typically, two levels of armoring are melded together: a passenger capsule that provides maximum protection for passengers; and vehicle body protection ensuring the vehicle’s ability to function, while also providing an extra level of protection for the passenger capsule.
As well as permanent vehicle installations, Plasan also offers kitted assembly designs that can be used to add protection to a vehicle without requiring welding or adding overt armor, along with the addition of transparent armor and internal anti-spalling layers to protect occupants.
Incorporating the latest armor technology, materials and communication equipment, our vehicles are the best tools available.
They offer the best combination of protection and mobility, acceleration and the ability to handle the roughest terrains to escape threats.
Automotive upgrades
Stronger, faster, safer: We armor and strengthen vehicles to protect crews and let them do their jobs safely.
We test and design a suite of automotive upgrades to ensure that customers’ technical and performance requirements are met. After a preliminary dynamic evaluation of the vehicle’s braking, stability, mobility and performance, and an equally thorough analysis of the threats to counter, we use 3D computer scans, weight and load assessments to customize a package of automotive upgrades. These cover individual components and, where necessary, whole sub-assemblies that may be manufactured in-house or sourced from top quality, highly reliable suppliers.
The key to enhancing vehicle protection is balancing mobility and armoring, with the increased weight of new armor integration offset by uprated ride and propulsion systems.
OEM chassis are reinforced in critical areas to manage the greater structural loads of uparmored protection systems and high-performance shock absorbers restore - or even improve – the resulting vehicle’s stability and dynamic performance, shrugging off the weight of the additional protection.
Suspension upgrades include high-performance coil-over struts and reinforced steel front damper mountings, with a range of new rear spring packs optimized to carry armor packages balanced across the vehicle.
The OEM chassis is reinforced in critical areas to manage the greater mass and shock loads, while the engine and drivetrain are uprated to offset the increased weight performance penalties and brakes are replaced to ensure that the whole vehicle can be retarded swiftly and safely. Many of the components have been proven in rigorous motorsport applications.
Wheels can be swapped for more heavy-duty items and wrapped in runflat tires as standard, with central inflation systems adding further reassurance if required, while adjustable suspension systems enable drivers to tailor their ride height and clamber over obstacles.
Reinforced fenders complete the external protection, complete with drag and pull mounting points enabling immobilized or damaged vehicles to be recovered and hauled out of harm’s way.
Internally, vehicles can be fitted with a series of options to increase crew safety and situational awareness. These include a range of air conditioning and climate control systems offering quiet-running cooling and air filtration, infrared and daylight camera installations, and full black-out switches to manage the vehicle’s signature.
Special design services
Plasan Re’em has the capacity to produce bespoke armor designs, as well as design and produce individual vehicles or fleets of vehicles, as customers require.
Our specialist designers and engineers have decades of experience and access to extensive proprietary design and threat databases. They use the latest digital tools and methods to assess, design and produce armor designs and solutions.
Each vehicle is tested for stability and performance, as well as its overall and component weight and load characteristics. It is then scanned, using an extremely precise computer system, OEM data is assessed, and a detailed armor, structural and automotive upgrade plan is developed. Data from our ballistics lab is used to develop and assess the strength and characteristics of the design solution.
Plasan Re’em can then install the design inhouse – our specialist manufacturing teams have worked closely with our designers and engineers for decades – or provide solutions directly to the customer or a designated company to produce the vehicle.
We also manufacture easily transportable, bespoke armoring kits that can be installed in customer facilities or in the field with simple tools. Whether it is one vehicle or a fleet, on-the-road or off-road vehicles, a turnkey product or self-assembly kit, Plasan Re’em’s solutions deliver the functionality our customers demand.
